Five Reasons Why I Love Being Musical

I could come up with countless reasons why I love being musical, and in this post, I will just discuss five. If you are interested in taking up a musical project, maybe I will help to inspire you. Or, if you are already musical, maybe you could relate!

1. Music is the universal language

There is something very empowering about being able to communicate in a language understood globally. Music does not discriminate anyone, and I embrace the opportunity to connect with all different people of all different ages through my musical endeavours. In the process of meeting others during artistic collaborations, and during the process of performing and recording songs live, I enjoy broadening my social circles and meeting individuals from all different walks of life.

2. Music is a rich way to express my emotions

There is something so cathartic and enriching about being able to experience life with a full array of emotions. When I am musical, I find it easier to express my feelings, and to bring life and colour to my thoughts and words. On a good day, I will feel better. And, on a bad day, I will feel better too. Life is better-lived when I choose to acknowledge my emotions and breathe more life into them musically.

3. Music provides my mind with enrichment

Practicing, composing, and performing as a musician is complex and intricate. I especially find the formal process of songwriting to be challenging. Writing songs comes fairly naturally to me, though perfecting songs and putting them into musical notes is an unfamiliar process. I have not yet charted notes for any band members during the creation of an album. My co-writer does as much because I lack formal training in creating musical charts. Nevertheless, I overview the musical charting and composition steps to expand my musical awareness. Musicians are smart and passionate people who work hard to bring songs from idea stages to commercial project completion. Being around such individuals, and learning their ways, enables me to feel more intellectually fulfilled in my day-to-day life.

4. My musical endeavours provide me with incredible memories

Probably my life’s fondest memories involve practicing, recording, and performing as a musical artist. I look back on life experiences with warmth during times when I have been musical. My artistic memories are rich with performing live on stage, singing my heart out at a beautiful recording facility, and clutching my songwriting notebook for a sense of writing comfort at the end of a day. Because of my musical passions, I get the opportunity to see and experience incredible moments that I may embrace for the rest of my life.

5. I am creative, whether I like it or not

I have oftentimes struggled to identify whether creativity is a gift or a curse. When I speak with fellow artists, I have an easy time trying to articulate what is it is like to be creative. When I speak with non-artists, I can only do my best to describe what it is like to live with an innate creative drive. Being creative means that there is a constant creative beast in me waiting to be fed. Being creative means that I will write songs, day and night, asleep or awake, jogging or showering, whether I like it or not. As well, being creative means that I experience life just a bit more richly, as I appreciate finer details of artistry in my day-to-day life. At the same time, being creative means that I am more sensitive as an individual. It means that I sometimes try to follow the road more travelled, only to find myself on a path less explored instead. I am creative whether I like it or not, and thus strive to honour this piece of me through my musicality.
